Craigslist Fools

So one of the subjects Lex and Terry talked about today was Craigslist. The talk was how people had found good deals and how some had been scammed. I think all the talk just went to show the typical idiots that listen to the show. Now I now it is going to be said..."but you listen to the show." Sure, but after this you will understand what I mean.

So unless you have been under a rock somewhere you should know that Craiglist is being used by many to fraud people out of money. Even if you didn't know that, you should see the huge "AVOIDING SCAMS & FRAUD" link at the top of each page. If nothing else you should also see at that link that Craiglist has listed and talked about things to look for to spot a fraud.

* DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one simple rule and you will avoid 99% of the scam attempts on craigslist.
* NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.
* FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.
* CRAIGSLIST IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION, and does not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification"
* NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
* AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION.

Now lets talk about a caller to Lex and Terry. He called in to say he had been had on Craiglist. He wanted to buy a jetski from some guy in Miami. The guy wanted half the payment, $3,000 wired to him. After which he would ship the jetski for free. The rest of the payment, $3,000 more, upon arrival of the jetski. Low and behold the guy wired the first $3,000 and never heard another word.

First off...looking at the craiglist scam link...they say...don't wire money. Second...only deal locally. So for the Lex and Terry listeners that means don't have things shipped! Come on! Now, lets think...is some guy really going to send you a jetski for free?? Just think of the shipping cost. Why don't you package up your refrigerator and send it to someone. Find out how much that cost. Probably more than it is worth.

I think this just goes to show that the Lex and Terry viewers are intellectually empty. They just sit there and hang on every word that Lex and Terry say. They don't think for themselves...they let Lex and Terry think for them.

  1. You sound very hateful in this article and I disagree totally. I feel the show talks about different situations with family, friends, and life... also talks about how to handle the situations in a cool way.

    1. Anyone buying online on craigslist, ebay, or even at the mall knows its buyer beware of your source and there policies.

    2. You don't half to be an expert to have an opinion in life. They dont' claim to be professinals as long as I heard them.

    3. I think you missed the message of the show totally. To me its about having fun and making good choices in life for your individual self.

I think you have a hidden agenda. Maybe a feminist or extreme right winger? As they say some people just don't get it! I think your article reflects that.

    Peace out!

  3. Just stumbled onto this article and I'd like to say the author is a fucktard. I'm being nice when I say this. To assume listeners of Lex and Terry are the "type" that fall for these scams is idiotic. I don't know what intellectual shows you listen to but I garauntee listeners of that show have been scammed.

Being the victim of a scam doesn't make you stupid, it makes you too trustworthy. Trustworthiness is generally seen as a positive attribute not a downfall.

I'll assume with your vast generalizations that you are also racist. The type of scum most people strive not to be. Grow up.

  4. This sounds like people who hate on sports teams like Duke/UNC, the Steelers, etc. Hated on because they're good.

It's a very entertaining show, they've been doing it a long time so it is very organized and professional (as far as radio show technicalities go... the content itself is your opinion)

If you're going to hate on ANYTHING, my god, please hate on the 95% of other radio talk shows with the same goofy yuck-it-up, typical hee-haw, 'boing' sound effect filled crap for 4 hours. With that typical exaggerated radio voice, and everything else you hear as you flip through the dial.

Lex and Terry, for whatever reason, folks identify with, or cling to. Again, they've been doing it so long it can almost be nostalgic. Listeners know the guys, or at least feel like they know them. And many of them do. The crew on that show make themselves very available at appearances, and have events that do things like raise money for autism research.

They get bigger celebrities than pretty much any radio show that's still alive, they get the big bands. Their ideas for bits are stolen by other shows left and right, and new, crappy, radio shows openly bash them just to get attention. Lex and Terry usually call these shows, put them on the air, and make them look stupid. It's awesome.

If you're too 'mature' for Lex and Terry, then my advice to you, ironically, is to grow up. Guys like farts, guys like panties, guys like dick jokes. But they are serious when necessary, and for whatever reason, guess what- girls like the show too.

    You sound bitter and stupid.
